Excelsior College helps working adults achieve their dream of a college degree. We’re a regionally accredited, private, distance learning institution and among the largest nonprofit organizations in the New York State Capital Region. Founded back in 1971, our mission is to remove the obstacles to the educational goals of working adults, in particular those historically underserved by higher education. And we have served those populations well. The college is consistently named a top military- and veteran-friendly institution and as a top degree producer for minority students. Our School of Nursing, the largest educator of nurses, has been designated a Center for Excellence in Nursing Education three times.

In total, Excelsior counts over 156,000 graduates worldwide and has a student body of more than 38,000.

Our College was founded upon the idea that “What you know is more important than how or where you learned it” and it is a philosophy that continues to guide our work today. Our educational model meets our adult students wherever they are, providing them with quality, personal and flexible programs that allow them to pursue a higher education while balancing the responsibilities of work and home life.  With undergraduate and graduate degrees in business & technology, health sciences, liberal arts, nursing, and public service, Excelsior opens a world of opportunities.

Our caring, professional, staff is as diverse as our student body. And the College is as committed to them as they are to the betterment of our students. Excelsior has been named a “Best Places to Work” by the Albany Business Review and a “Top Workplace” by the Albany Times Union three-times.
